The Forest Object Archive (FOA) is an ongoing collection of living matter. The archive is a depository of digitized forest objects – fragments of trees, rocks, roots, textures, curious topography, – translations of video footage into 3D reproductions. The individual samples are geographically dispersed, the archive establishes an impossible scenario of geographic dissonance - A tree found in a boreal forest in Norway sits beside a sapling found in an Australian delta, sitting on top of a series of rocks sourced in Iceland. A garden of the most unlikely scenarios.

The archive is interested in the form, texture, and structure of living material.

Forest Object Archive Season 1 (FOA1):

“The inaugural season/collection of the archive was initiated by a workshop organized by Open City Design Institute (OCDI). The intention for the workshop is to collectively (you, me, us) begin an experimental archive project, a library of living things, titled,Forest Object Archive.

Together we are going to collect digital forest objects, this might include, but is not limited to, fragments of trees - trunks, roots, stumps-, rocks, and other living memorabilia found in forests.

The geographically dispersed collection of the digital copies, together, become a timestamp of our geological moment, a sort of active archive without conclusions but comparisons and openings. You are the data harvester; Me as the processing plant; Us as the digital forest preservationist.

As the harvester, there are a few steps to follow:

1. First, what do you (the harvestor) require? Camera! For example, your phone.

2. Then, you go for a walk in a forest (bring the phone)

3. While in the forest, collect a forest object. Slowly walk around the forest object, whilst taking a video with your phone.

4.Once you have finished the video.Take a photo of the forest object.

5. Send the video and photo via a wetransfer link on Discord, or email.

6. The video collection will be processed into digital objects.”
